VR Simulator Crane Training

Why is it useful to train with a VR simulator?

Our Virtual Reality crane simulator reduces the huge costs involved in having to rent a crane by the hour to practice driving and operating it. With our VR station users will be able to book a time to practice that suits their schedule, no more waiting weeks, or months for a chance to get in the driver’s seat!

Our system is complete with 9 of cranes to choose from. It allows for the user to swap between the type of crane they want to experience driving. This allows for more versatility for the user when on a construction site in real life.

This system at Structure Compliance will build a profile for each user. There is no limit to the number of times a user can practice. Go from novice to expert in as little time as possible from the comfort of our VR room. Users will receive log in details where they will have their own profiles to be able to build on and show to employers as proof of their experience and progress in operating cranes. Numerous crane simulations and tasks will be presented for the user to navigate.

Everything that unfolds in the VR world is a representation of the real-world complications and situations that arise with operating a crane in construction.

This VR crane simulation will physically, mentally, and safely prepare you for the day you jump into a cab for real!

Using VR training to certify your employee as a competent person as per OSHA requirements 1926.32(f)

“Competent Person means one who is capable of identifying existing and predictable hazards in the surroundings or working conditions which are unsanitary, hazardous, or dangerous to employees, and who has authorization to take prompt corrective measures to eliminate them.”
– [29 CFR 1926.32(f)]OSHA.

Structure Compliance’s VR system harnesses the technology of virtual reality and is infused with the technical industry knowledge and educational design of Industrial Training International (ITI) subject matter experts to provide fully immersive, hands-on, practical operator training.
Leveraging VR technology, the crane and rigging industry now has an innovative and fully immersive tool to assist in the certification of crane operators as a ‘competent person’.

Using VR is the safest and most efficient way to become a ‘competent person’ when you do not have unlimited use of an actual crane and 24/7 access to a qualified trainer.

Case studies on the effectiveness of VR training in performance testing

Can a test using virtual reality effectively supplement or replace a performance test?

There are studies being undertaken right now by the National Commission for the Certification of Crane Operators (NCCCO) foundation to determine if Virtual Reality has a role in certification testing.

The results indicate that the VR test is an exceptionally reliable measure for predicting a passing score on an actual crane.

“The likelihood of a candidate passing the VR test but failing the subsequent parallel test on an actual crane was 5.5%,” said Dr. Judd. “And the correlation of the score on one Actual Crane test with another actual crane test score taken by the same candidate was 0.88.”

The study sought to determine the extent to which a virtual-reality crane operator test could predict the results of a test conducted on an actual crane.
The results were encouraging.

Currently, while the results are encouraging, the study is too small to determine conclusively whether it is appropriate to certify a candidate using only VR technology as a replacement for an actual crane. Additional studies will be needed to evaluate VR certification as this technology becomes further refined.
